Marines conducting several exercises during the Rim of the Pacific International Maritime Exercise are the first in the Corps to test a small smart vehicle that aims to provide better mobility for units involved in the distributed operations.

The new vehicles are the MRZR, an all-terrain vehicle manufactured by Polaris. The Marines call them Utility Tactical Vehicles (UTV). To meet military requirements, Polaris announced in May that it would begin production of a "turbo diesel" version of its gas-powered ATVs.
